Science lesson of Aquarius class

Stephen

Mixing Colors!

Food coloring

Yellow and blue, what color is going to be?

well.... maybe pink?

How about blue and red?

Everyone is guessing what color is going to be!

OK, now let's imagine the color and

make the color!!

Wow!, it's like M letter!

Yes, we are learning M this week!

Our students are so good at alphabet and Phonics!

Could you make correct colors?

Our students love the science lesson!

Prime

Everyone did the great job!

Field Trip ~Odaiba Beach~
 September Themeは”Ocean”。

Let's go!

"Two more stops, then we'll get off the train."
"OK!"

We arrived at Odaiba Beach.
It's really Beach and Ocean!!!!

The water is chilly, but No Problem!

Waiting for my turn.

Look at my mountain!

The boys and girls enjoyed a fun ride back to school on the Yurikamome monorail. We were fortunate to get a good seat so they could enjoy the view.

Plant Pazzle

Our Pets! ~ Blacky & Rainbow became beautiful butterflies! ~

On Monday morning we were surprised to find that our caterpillars had emerged from their cocoons, having finished their metamorphosis into beautiful butterflies!
One of the butterflies was still preparing to open its wings and fly for the first time… an exciting sight for the students! We thought about where the butterflies might be happy living out their lives, and decided that the Ebisu Garden Park, with its large flower garden, would be the perfect place for them. After morning circle, we took the butterflies there and said our goodbyes.
It was fulfilling yet bittersweet for students and teachers alike to watch the butterflies fly away.
 Good luck little butterflies!

Submarines deep down in the sea

May's theme is
"Transportation"

Twinkle Star Class Report:

To go with the theme, we made car tracks by dipping car wheels into paint.
After that, the children could freely move the cars on papers creating car tracks.
Later on, we glued vehicle pictures onto the tracks.

Pluto Class Report:

We classified the vehicles into three categories:
Ones that travel by sea, on land, and in the sky.

Miss Kate: Do buses go in the sky?
Students: No!

On "Picasso Day" we also learned about Henri Matisse and his use of color and shape.  Look at our masterpieces!

Aquarius Class Report:
We learned about vehicles that “Travel by Sea.”
We talked about different water vehicles and discussed how they move,
using vocabulary like “sail” and “propeller.”
Next, students watched a video of an unconventional aircraft, a hovercraft, and talked about vehicles that can go in the water AND in the air or on land.
Then we learned all about submarines, while jamming to the Beatles’ classic song
“Yellow Submarine.” We imagined that our classroom was a submarine,
and took a tour of the bottom of the sea. Students drew “submarine windows”
and thought about what they might see outside through a porthole while under the ocean.

They have just drew the sea.
They have just drawn "deep down in the sea"
and...

now we can see what's on land as well!
Let's see what comes next!!

Our Pets!

Science:

We are watching a very exciting process taking place in the Aquarius Class this month.
Our new class “pets,” two tiny caterpillars, are eating lots of leaves as they prepare to transform into butterflies! In science class we are currently studying life cycles: what the phrase “life cycle” means and how it applies to us. Students are learning about some unique life cycles in the animal kingdom such as those of butterflies and frogs.

Our “pets” (named “Blacky” and “Rainbow”) are larva of the swallowtail butterfly, and they are growing quickly. Several times a week we feed them leaves from citrus plants like mikan or yuzu trees, a swallowtail favorite. Our pets have a nice cozy container home filled with rocks and soil, which we keep moist by regularly adding water so the environment won’t be too dry. As we watch our caterpillars grow, we are recording their changes in our writing journals. We’re very excited to watch their metamorphosis in beautiful yellow butterflies!

Are they eating the leaves I brought?

"Life Cycle"

Field trip to the "Tokyo Science Museum"

On Friday, April 12th the Aquarius Class took an enlightening trip to the Tokyo Science Museum!
We began our day with a fun ride on the train, then a walk through Kudanshita and the outer gardens of the Imperial Palace.

The museum offered all kinds of educational hands-on activities, and our first experience of the day was speaking with an interactive robot.

We helped design a futuristic city, combined hydrogen and oxygen molecules to make water in a virtual game, drove flying cars in a high-speed race, and operated a life-sized construction crane… all before lunch!

Our day wrapped up as we rode an earthquake simulator, watched a giant perpetual motion machine, and walked through a disorienting tunnel of optical illusions.

The field trip helped the students to realize that science is everywhere in the world around them, and enforced one of our class mottos: SCIENCE IS FUN!!!
