Hot water and cold water!
We listened the instruction carefully and made it! We need cheeks, eyes, and raindrops!! Tah dah!! We made it! We put some material in the cloud, so it is really fluffy and is making sound! After the craft, we did an experiment. We have been learning about how hot water and cold water works. They remembered that hot water/air wants to got up and cold water/air wants to go down. We used plastic bottles to see how air expands. If you put the bottle in a hot water, it... expands!!! If you put it in a cold water, it... contracts...!! 2015.06.26 Friday
We went to Tokyo Water Science Museum!
Today, we went to Tokyo Water Science Museum!
"Oh no! It's popped!!" 2015.06.24 Wednesday

The rain comes out of cloud.” It's rainy here, it's rainy there, it's rainy rainy everywhere ♪♪ 歌も歌って楽しそうですね! 2015.06.22 Monday

how is thunder created?
We do lots of interesting experiences in the class on Saturdays. Today, we learned about how thunder is created. We prepared the two colored cups of water. The red one is hot water, and the blue one is cold water. "Oh wow! The water doesn't spill!!" "Okay, so what do you think the two colored water go? Do you think it will be mixed or stay seperated?" "I think it turns to purple!" "I think so, too!" "Okay, we'll see. 3...2...1..." "Oh yes! It turned to purple!" "The hot water is less dense than the cold water surrounding it, so it rises to the top of the cup." "What happens as the hot water gets to the top? It stays there for a little while and then moves back down towards the bottom of the cup as it cools down. The hot water starts to mix with the cold water as it cools." Shiyo explained. "How about if the hot water is the top and the cold water is the bottom...?" "I think it won't be mixed!" "No, I think it will be mixed!" "I think it turns to be purple again!!!" It wasn't mixed!!! Why?? "So, the result is that air is made up of lots of tiny molecules. As air heats up, its molecules start to move faster and farther apart from each other, making the air thinner and lighter. This closeness of molecules to each other is called density. Warm air is less dense than cold air. The warm air floats up through the cooler air, which is heavier and thicker, or more dense. Then, as the warm air rises it starts to cool off and its molecules move more slowly and closer together and it sinks again. This is called convection. When the air moves up and down, it forms currents." "yes, convection happens in the atmosphere- the layer of air in the sky above the ground. When convection currents happen in the atmosphere, big clouds are formed. Sometimes those clouds turn into thunderstorms. Then, when the warm air cools down again, it starts to sink and breaks up the thunderstorm!" So the middle of the mixture part express the thunderstorm! That is very interesting! "Wow that is so cool!" |
